Bochum School Museum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bochum School Museum was a school museum in Bochum that existed from 1989 to 2015 .

history

The school museum was founded in 1989 and was located in the old Cruismann school. In 1987, on the initiative of the then head of the school administration office, Jürgen Niedringhausen, work began on compiling a school history collection there.

In three large classrooms and 4 smaller exhibition rooms, a fully furnished classroom from the period around 1900 including the teaching and learning materials of that time was shown, as well as the rector's and teachers' rooms that were faithfully reproduced.

A showcase was dedicated to the Jewish school teacher Else Hirsch .

The school history library, including a complete list of Bochum schools and teaching staff, came from the estate of the former Bochum school councilor Wilhelm Rüter.

The museum was closed in 2015 due to a lack of fire protection measures. Replacement rooms were not found in Bochum.

Where the exhibition is going

After a redesign of the local history and natural history museum in Wanne-Eickel in the neighboring town of Herne , the “classroom anno1900” including many of the teaching and learning materials from that time was housed there.

Another part of the exhibition, in particular all the chronicles and protocol books of Bochum schools, was given to the Bochum City Archives . The rest of the exhibition was stored until further use.

The pedagogical work will be continued on the move. School classes, senior citizens and leisure groups can either book the "school museum out of the suitcase" or the "school museum on the go", a stage trailer equipped with the furniture of a classroom from 1900, which can be exhibited in schoolyards or at larger events, anniversaries, etc.
