The Aue ( pronunciation ? / I ) is a 44-kilometer-long flowing water in the Lower Saxony district of Ammerland in Germany . Audio file / audio sample

It flows in the communities of Wiefelstede , Bad Zwischenahn , Edewecht , Apen and Barßel. Up to the mouth at Barßel it changes its name twice.

Upper course

The floodplain rises in the north of Wiefelstede as Auebach . It flows into the Zwischenahner Meer after 10.6 km from the northeast , at the Aue district of the same name. It is indeed the name and hydrographic classification of the upper reaches of the Aue, but two other tributaries of the inland lake are longer and have larger catchment areas:

GKZ Surname length Catchment area Origin – Barßeler Tief
388211 Auebach 10.62 15.89 km² 46.1 km
388212 Halfsteder Bäke 11.96 km 32.56 km² 47.8 km
388214 Otterbäke 12.19 km 29.75 km² 47.2 km

The difference in the ranking of the stream lengths to the lake and the flow paths from the origins to the mouth at Barßel results from the different lengths of paths (hypothetical sea axes) through the lake.

Lower course

The Auebach just before it flows into the Zwischenahner Meer

After it has flowed through the Zwischenahner Meer, it forms one of two outflows of the Zwischenahner Meer in the south of the sea near Eyhausen next to the Speckener Bäke . From Eyhausen it flows west past the health resort Bad Zwischenahn in a south-westerly direction and joins the Speckener Bäke at Ekern . In the south of Edewecht , the course of the river makes a large curve, takes up the Vehne there and then flows in a north-westerly direction to Godensholt . Starting with the farmers of Osterscheps, the water level of the floodplain fluctuates increasingly due to the tidal range of the Ems .

From Godensholt the floodplain becomes Godensholter Tief . It continues to flow in a westerly direction, where it becomes the Nordloher Tief at Nordloh . In the north-west of Barßel it unites with the Soeste to the Barßeler Tief. These two are upper sections of the Jümme river .

At Tange, the floodplain forms the border between the Ammerland and the district of Cloppenburg for a few kilometers . Historically, the lower reaches of the floodplain between the confluence of the Vehne and the Barßeler Tief formed the border between the Duchy of Oldenburg and the Lower Monastery of Münster until 1803.
