August Freiherr von der Heydte

Philipp August Joachim Freiherr von der Heydte (born January 11, 1809 in Feuchtwangen ; † August 6, 1880 in Eger ) was an imperial and royal major general . In addition to numerous military medals, he was made an honorary citizen of the free royal cities of Sibiu , Kronstadt and Maros-Vasaryely in Transylvania .

Von der Heydte was born in Franconia ; his father was a councilor in the Bavarian state government. After attending grammar school in Ansbach , he was originally supposed to study law, but then joined the Kuk Bohemian Dragoon Regiment "Eugen Prince of Savoy" No. 13 as a cadet . In 1828 he was appointed subordinate .

In 1833 he was promoted to first lieutenant. From 1835 to 1837 he was adjutant to the commanding general of the cavalry Johann Friedrich von Mohr . In 1837 he became Rittmeister 2nd class and in 1841 1st class. He was deployed in 1848/49 during the winter campaign of the Revolutionary War in Transylvania . In 1849 he became a major in the Chevaulegers regiment "Graf Wrbna" No. 6 and then transferred to the general staff as a lieutenant colonel . In 1851 he was promoted to second colonel and in 1854 transferred to the Cürassier regiment "King Maximilian of Bavaria" No. 2. In 1854 the colonel became regimental commander there. His last rank was from March 1, 1859 Major General in the 1st Infantry Army Corps. Shortly afterwards, on November 9, 1859, he was retired.

Because of his military achievements he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order , the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class, the War Medal , the Order of St. Anne II. Class (with swords), the Order of Saint Vladimir IV. Class (with swords) and the Transylvania Memorial Medal.

From 1833 von der Heydte was married to a von Neckarsfeld; no children were born from the marriage.
