August Georg von Wickede was the son of the later chief forestry master Johann Friedrich von Wickede (1755–1839), who was the chief forest clerk in the Principality of Ratzeburg . August Georg received his forestry training first in Remplin and then attended the Forest Academy in Berlin , founded by Georg Ludwig Hartig under the direction of Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Pfeil , from which the Eberswalde Forest Academy emerged in 1830 . In 1827 he became a Mecklenburg-Schwerin Chamberlain and Hunting Squire and from 1833 worked in the Gelbensande forest district , where the (formerly) ducal hunting lodge Gelbensande is still surrounded by a 12,000 hectare forest area. In 1845 he became a forester in Toddin , in 1848 in Doberan, where he was promoted to chief forester . In Doberan he planted the avenue of lime trees to the Ostseerennbahn and Ostseebad Heiligendamm .

Since 1827 he was a member of the Corps Vandalia Rostock and the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology .
