August Isbert

August Wolfgang Johann Isbert (born August 19, 1856 in Wiesbaden ; † March 6, 1950 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian infantry general and military commander in Karlsruhe during the First World War .

Career

On April 1, 1913, Isbert was Lieutenant General in command of the 29th Division in Freiburg im Breisgau . At the beginning of the First World War in August 1914, his division fought in the association of the XIV Army Corps on the Western Front . Isbert took part in the battle of Lorraine , transferred to the Artois in October during the race to the sea . In May 1915 his troops fought in the Battle of La-Bassée and in late September 1915 in the Autumn Battle of Champagne . On August 3, 1916, he gave up the leadership of his division and until the end of the war in 1918 was the commanding general of the Deputy General Command of the XIV Army Corps in Karlsruhe.

He was the son of Jakob Isbert (1808–1881) and had five siblings, including the brothers Karl (1864–1946) and Adolf (1858–1938). Isbert was married and had a son, Bernhard Isbert (* 1897).
