August Kimme (born June 11, 1912 in Hamburg , † December 4, 1999 in Bad Kreuznach ) was an Evangelical Lutheran theologian and mission director in Leipzig.
Life
Kimme studied Modern Languages and Protestant Theology at the University of Wroclaw . After that he was vicar in Miechowitz and Wittenberg . From 1940 he was pastor in several Saxon parishes. In 1949 he received his doctorate as Dr. theol. at the University of Leipzig . In 1950 he became general secretary of the Lutheran Unification Work . In the early 1950s he became a lecturer in systematic theology at Leipzig University. He was a member of the Ecumenical Study Committee of the VELKD and attended the 1957 General Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation in Minneapolis . In 1958 the university dismissed him for political reasons and he had no chance of a professorship. He found a job as a lecturer in dogmatics at the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church in Leipzig. In 1960 he completed his habilitation. From 1960 to 1982 he was director of the Leipziger Missionswerk , where the first director Karl Graul became his great role model. Like him, Kimme endeavored to maintain a faithful Lutheranism and particularly advocated the Lutheran doctrine of the physical real presence of Christ in the Lord's Supper and against the Leuenberg Agreement .
His son Johannes Kimme was President of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Office of Saxony from 2010 to 2019 .
