Ernst Sommerlath

Ernst Sommerlath (born January 23, 1889 in Hanover , † March 4, 1983 in Leipzig ) was a German Lutheran theologian ( systematic theologian ).

Sommerlath was born the son of a businessman and from 1907 studied theology in Heidelberg , Greifswald , Leipzig and Göttingen . In 1917, he was with a thesis on Kant's doctrine of freedom doctorate .

After being seriously wounded as a lieutenant in the First World War and as a pastor, he taught systematic theology , from 1921 as a private lecturer and from 1924 until his retirement in 1959 as a professor at the theological faculty of Leipzig University. As a decidedly Lutheran theologian, he rejected the Arnoldshain Last Supper Theses (1957) as well as the Leuenberg Agreement (1973).

From 1958 to 1983, Sommerlath was editor of the renowned theological literary newspaper .

In 1976 he worked as the bride's uncle at the wedding of Silvia Sommerlath to the Swedish King Carl XVI. Gustaf at St Nicolai Storkyrka in Stockholm .
