August Klemme was born before the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in 1830 in the royal seat of the Kingdom of Hanover , where he made special friends with two fellow students at the Polytechnic School in the early 1850s while studying mechanical engineering : Carl Bornemann from Alfeld and the later comic artist Wilhelm Busch . After Klemme first went to the art academy in Düsseldorf to study painting in the fall of 1850 and then sent encouraging messages to Hanover, his two friends followed him on March 9, 1851 to study painting at the Düsseldorf academy - even Wilhelm Busch against his father's will.

After Klemme went to Antwerp , where he lived at number 320 at Pont au Fromage , Wilhelm Busch also followed him there. Later, after Klemme had also stayed in Munich and reported on the now highly esteemed Academy of Fine Arts to Busch in Wiedensahl , Wilhelm Busch followed him to the southern German metropolis.

Back in Hanover, the painter Conrad Beckmann became one of Klemm's students.

August Klemme died in his hometown of Hanover at the age of only 48 in the early founding days of the German Empire on November 30, 1878.
