August Klobes

August Klobes (born July 19, 1920 in Arnsberg ; † 1992 ) was a diplomat in the service of the GDR .

Life

Klobes, son of a metal worker, visited the folk and the urban business school and completed a commercial apprenticeship. Then worked in the Ruhr Valley motorcycle works in Neheim . He was drafted into the Reich Labor Service in April 1940 and military service in December 1940. In 1943 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets . In 1943/44 he attended the Antifa schools in Vyazniki and near Moscow and became a member of the National Committee "Free Germany" (NKFD). Klobes was deployed at the front on behalf of the NKFD. He was initially a front officer on the 3rd Belarusian Front near Vitebsk , then until April 1945 with the 5th Army.

After his return to Germany in May 1945, he headed the publishing house of the “ Schweriner Volkszeitung ” from 1946 to 1949 . In 1946 he became a member of the SED . From 1949 he was a member of the diplomatic service of the GDR. At first he was secretary at the diplomatic mission or embassy in Sofia . Then he was a consultant and department head in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1969 to 1981 he headed the Consular Affairs Department at the MfAA with the rank of ambassador . In 1973/74 Klobes headed the GDR delegation of the German-German border commission from the first to the tenth session .
