August Louis Leopold Saß (born November 9, 1874 in Bredow , Randow district , † February 27, 1957 in Berlin ) was a German violinist and music teacher .

Born as the son of a locksmith in Bredow , a suburb of Stettin , Saß received lessons at the Conservatory in Stettin with Paul Wild from 1893 to 1899 . He was then first violinist at the Szczecin City Theater in 1899/1900. In 1900/1901 he was in Leipzig , where he played in the Gewandhaus Orchestra and at the same time received lessons from Hans Sitt at the Leipzig Conservatory . This was followed by engagements with orchestras in Davos (Switzerland), Wiborg (Grand Duchy of Finland), Pavlovsk (Russia), Saint Petersburg (Russia) and Frankfurt am Main .

In 1906 Saß returned to Stettin. Here he first taught violin at the Loewe-Riemann Conservatory and then founded his own institute in 1909, the German Violinist School in Saß-Stettin.

Saß published some writings on learning to play the violin. He was also active as a composer .
