biography

The son of the teacher and farmer Johann Georg Mühlebach grew up in Cham and Knonau . He attended secondary school in Cham and the agricultural school in Brugg , after which he worked for six years on his father's farm in Knonau. It wasn't until he was 25 years old that he was able to achieve his goal of studying at ETH Zurich . He graduated from this in 1900 with a diploma as an engineer-agronomist, after which he went to the University of Göttingen for a semester to continue his education in the fields of dairy farming and cattle breeding .

In 1901 Mühlebach took over the post of state inspector for animal breeding and dairy in Styria . Only one year later, the Bavarian government made him head of the agricultural and forestry school in Immenstadt . In 1904 he moved to the canton of Thurgau , where the cantonal government commissioned him to set up the Arenenberg agricultural school in Salenstein , which was founded that year . Under Mühlebach's leadership, the school was expanded to include a model company and a dairy station. In addition, he was President of the Thurgau Farmers' Association, Editor-in-Chief of the Eastern Swiss Farmer and Managing Director of the Association of Thurgau Cheese and Dairy Cooperatives.

In 1919 Mühlebach returned to the agricultural school in Brugg and worked there as a teacher for animal breeding and deputy rector. He was also involved in several agricultural associations, cooperatives and commissions. As a candidate of the Conservative People's Party (today's CVP), he was elected to the National Council in 1930, to which he belonged until his death. In parliament he mainly devoted himself to agricultural policy .
