August Riedinger

August Riedinger (born October 9, 1845 in Augsburg ; † January 15, 1919 there ) was a German entrepreneur.

Life

August Riedinger was born in 1845 as the son of Ludwig August Riedinger , an entrepreneur working in Augsburg. He studied at the Zurich Polytechnic and then became a partner in his father's machine and bronze goods factory, which he took over in 1883. After the company was converted into a stock corporation, Riedinger became chairman of the supervisory board of LA Riedinger Maschinen- und Bronzewarenfabrik AG in 1887 . As early as 1883 he had founded the United Gas Works AG in Augsburg, to which seventeen gas companies belonged in 1896 , for example those in Bozen , Lugano and Marburg . In addition, he worked on the board of the Society for the Gas Industry . In Innsbruck in 1889 he participated in the construction and operation of the Innsbruck – Hall in Tirol local railway .

Parseval test airship

From 1888, Riedinger worked with August von Parseval and Hans Bartsch von Sigsfeld on the development of steerable airships. In 1897 he founded the Augsburg balloon factory , which produced around 4,000 dragon balloons for the military by the end of the First World War . In 1901 Riedinger was a founding member of the Augsburg free balloon club . In 1906 the first Parseval airship , the so-called test airship, was built in his factory . Riedinger later also produced hulls for Schütte-Lanz airships. In 1931 Auguste Piccard rose from the launch site of the balloon factory with a balloon made here for the first stratospheric flight .

1910 founded Riedinger in Augsburg a factory for the production of blue gas , one of oil by the method of Hermann Blue manufactured force gas . Blue gas was used as liquid gas for heating and welding, but also served as fuel for the Zeppelin LZ 127 .

In 1908 Riedinger was appointed Royal Bavarian Commerce Councilor and in 1912 he became a committee member of the Association of the German Museum . He was also known as a promoter of technical progress and as a patron of the arts .

August Riedinger was married twice. His first wife Anna (1848–1882) was the daughter of Max von Pettenkofer . After her untimely death, he married Bertha Brandenberger in 1883, the daughter of the technical director of the Augsburg cotton spinning mill on the Stadtbach . With both wives, Riedinger each had a son and a daughter.
