August Wichmann

August Wichmann (born April 19, 1811 in Rabenkirchen , † December 15, 1876 in Lübeck ) was a politician and member of the Reichstag .

Wichmann, the son of a pastor, went to high school in Ratzeburg and Altona and studied from 25 October 1829 the University of Kiel and later in Halle and Jena theology . As a member of the Jenaische Burschenschaft / Germania , he was subjected to investigations in the thirties as part of the demagogue persecution , which he evaded by traveling to England, France and Spain. Here he entered the service of the Anglo-Spanish Legion and returned to his homeland as an artillery lieutenant after the end of the war. In 1839 he again visited the University of Kiel to law to study, and habilitated there in 1841 as a lawyer.

In April 1848 he was elected Colonel of the Kiel Civil Guard. In a by-election on December 13, 1848, he was elected a member of the constituent Schleswig-Holstein state assembly for the city of Kiel, until its dissolution in 1851 he was secretary. His re-election took place on 28/29. June 1850 for the 25th general electoral district.

After the reintroduction of Danish rule, he was forbidden to practice law and therefore joined the Cologne life insurance company "Concordia" as an inspector in 1854. In 1859 he became director of the German life insurance company in Lübeck. He was a member of the Lübeck citizenship and from 1868 to 1869 the spokesman for the citizens' committee.

From 1871 to 1874 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the National Liberal Party for the Lübeck constituency.
