August Wilhelm von Pletz (* 1741 in Halberstadt ; † August 15, 1810 in Bernstadt in Silesia ) was a Prussian major general and chief of Hussar Regiment No. 3 .

Life

Military career

Pletz comes from a simple background and came to the "Belling" hussar regiment during the Seven Years' War . He first fought against the French, then took part in the battle of Kunersdorf and was wounded near Freiberg . In the time he was in 1761 on January 4, cornet and already on June 1, 1761 second lieutenant , and on September 1, 1763 First Lieutenant .

On June 5, 1777 promoted to staff assistant master, Pletz took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . He received a squadron on April 15 and was Rittmeister . On November 26, 1786 he became major and at the review on June 3, 1792 he received the order Pour le Mérite . In the First Coalition War he took part in the battles of Deidesheim and Kirrweiler and was wounded near Eddersheim. He fought in the battle of Kaiserslautern and the siege of Landau . During that time he became lieutenant colonel on January 13, 1794 and commander of the 2nd battalion of Hussar Regiment No. 8 on March 3, 1794 . On January 5, 1796 he was promoted to colonel and on November 19, 1793 received the hussar regiment No. 3. On May 20, 1804 he was major general with a patent from May 21, 1804. In the Fourth Coalition War he was in the Blücher corps and was after his surrender on November 6, 1806 at Ratekau made inactive. Before that, on November 1, 1806, he and Yorck could still defend themselves against the French in the battle of Waren-Nossentin. In 1807 he received half pay and died on August 15, 1810 in Bernstadt.
