Auguste Baison by August Weger (1823-1892).

Auguste Baison , married Auguste Hofmann (born June 1, 1846 in Frankfurt am Main , † October 4, 1916 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf ) was a German theater actress .

Life

Baison, daughter of Jean Baptist and Caroline Baison , was prepared for a theater career by her father. She first appeared on the stage at the German State Theater in Prague in 1858 .

After she had worked there for two years and had been introduced to the role of the “ young lover ”, she was committed to the Victoria Theater in Berlin in 1860 , which enabled her to acquire other roles until she joined the Association of the Carltheater Vienna in 1862 . Julie Radich trained her here. She stayed in Vienna for a year, accepted an engagement in Bremen in 1863, then one in Nuremberg in 1864, in Mainz in 1865 and at the Court Theater in Munich from 1866 to 1868 , where Karl Jenke took on her. From there she was invited to a longer guest performance, initially as "Louise" in Kabale und Liebe , at the St. Petersburg Court Theater, which gave her the title of "Imperial Russian Court Actress".

After returning to Germany, she appeared from then on only as a guest in Königsberg, Danzig (1869), Prague, Straubing (1870), Breslau (1871, as "Deborah" and as " Maria Stuart "), Mannheim, Cologne and Augsburg until she Having arrived in her hometown, she decided to take on a longer engagement in the tragedy subject there. On December 25, 1872, Auguste Baison celebrated her official stage farewell in Frankfurt as “Maria Stuart”.

She had stopped because her director Schweigert had fixed her too much on one subject that she did not fill artistically. She did not take on a new permanent engagement at another stage in order not to be separated from her husband, who was also acting. She only gave non-binding guest performances. She didn't like moving around, however. In March 1878 she made a guest appearance in Stettin, while her husband was employed again at the Municipal Theater in Frankfurt. Therefore, she asked the artistic director Otto Devrient , pointing out her strong ties to the city, to include her in the ensemble. After several more years of guest appearances, in which she was recognized in her brilliant roles "Maria Stuart", "Deborah", "Medea" and " Sappho " , which were especially developed in Frankfurt , she settled in Berlin around 1897/98, where she moved several times within the city before she settled in the Bavarian Quarter around 1906/1907 . Until 1912 she was still active as an occasional actress, dramatic teacher and reciter.

She was married to the actor Jean Hofmann , who was also born in Frankfurt am Main ; the marriage was later divorced. Her two daughters worked at the Deutsches Theater Berlin .
