Auguste Groner

Auguste Groner (born April 16, 1850 in Vienna ; † March 7, 1929 there , born Auguste Kopallik ) was an Austrian writer. She also published under the pseudonyms Olaf Björnson, A. von der Paura, Renorga and Metis.

Life

Auguste Groner was born in Vienna in 1850 as the daughter of a government official. The church historian Joseph Kopallik and the painter Franz Kopallik were her brothers. From 1876 to 1905 she worked as a primary school teacher. In 1879 she married the journalist Richard Groner . She started writing around 1882. First, the productive and versatile feature writer wrote riddle poems, youth and historical homeland stories. She was honored for her work in 1893 by the literary department of the World's Fair in Chicago . Since 1890, numerous crime stories and novels have been published, some of which have been translated into Scandinavian and English. Groner invented the first series detective in German-language literature, Joseph Müller, who first appeared in the short story Die goldene Kugel , which was first published in 1892. In 1894 she founded the Austrian Youth Newspaper (supplement to the Wiener Abendblatt ) and the Austrian Youth Library .

Auguste Groner died in Vienna in 1929 and was buried in an honorary grave in the Hietzinger Friedhof (group 4, number 88).

The Golden Auguste is named after Auguste Groner , a prize for contributions to women's crime fiction.
