Augustin Speyer
Augustin Speyer (born October 19, 1974 in Stuttgart ) is a German linguist and Germanist . Since the 2013/2014 winter semester, he has been a full professor of historical grammar at Saarland University in Saarbrücken.
Speyer attended the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium in Stuttgart from 1985 to 1994 , from which he graduated from high school. He won several awards for outstanding achievements in Latin , ancient Greek and Hebrew . From 1994 to 2000 he studied Classical Philology and German at the University of Tübingen and at the University College in Oxford . In 2002 the doctorate in Latin Philology followed in Tübingen. The title of the work is Communication Structures in Seneca's Dramas and was supervised by Ernst A. Schmidt and Marga Reis . From 2002 to 2003 he was visiting scholar at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia , where he studied general linguistics until 2007 . He completed this course in 2007 with a Ph.D. (Title of the work: Topicalization and Clash Avoidance ). This was followed by a professorship for modern German linguistics at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken (winter semester 2007/2008) and a position as an assistant at the German seminar at the University of Tübingen (2008). From 2009 to 2010 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Graduate College 'Satzarten' in Frankfurt am Main and completed his habilitation in 2010 with the thesis Vorfeld-Studien in Saarbrücken . From 2010 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Institute for German Linguistics at the University of Marburg , until he was offered a professorship for historical grammar at the University of Göttingen in 2012, which he had already represented from WS 2010/11 to SS 2011. There he taught for two semesters until he moved to Saarbrücken in the 2013/2014 winter semester.
Speyer is primarily concerned with historical syntax , in particular with word order , subordination and the left periphery. However, these are not only researched for Old and Middle High German, but also viewed from a diachronic perspective up to New High German. He is also interested in historical phonology and morphology . Another focus is the language change, especially from a generative perspective.
