Auld Corn Brigade was an Irish folk punk band from Nordhausen in Thuringia .

history

The band was founded by Nico, Nicole, Stefan and Uwe in Nordhausen . All musicians come from the music scene in Nordhausen and Leipzig . The central point of the music scene in Nordhausen was the Rockhaus, a prefabricated building with rehearsal rooms. The band name was inspired by Nordhäuser Korn . After several line-up changes and live concerts, the album A Fighter's Lullabies was created in 2009 , which was released on St. Patrick's Day 2010 on the Berlin label Bad Dog Records and only contains cover versions of old Irish folk songs. In May 2012, the 4-song vinyl EP Our Flag was released , on which two of the band's own songs are for the first time. At the end of 2013, the second full-length album Rebels till the End will be released , which includes two traditional folk songs and only its own songs. According to their own statements, the band split up in December 2014.

style

The band plays traditional Irish folk songs mixed with punk and rock elements . Their musical style is comparable to that of other folk-punk bands such as the Dropkick Murphys or The Porters . However, the selection of songs is not limited to just drinking and beautiful Irish landscapes, but also relates to the history of Ireland and its unrest. With Rebels till the End , Auld Corn Brigade takes on an increasingly harder musical pace, which, however, does not lack folky elements. The range of content, which had already expanded on the EP Our Flag , deals with left-wing political and anti-racist, as well as generally socially critical issues. But also with sport (rugby) and still Irish content.
