Aurelio Aureli

Aurelio Aureli (* around 1630 ? On Murano ; † after 1708 ) was an Italian librettist .

Life

Aureli's first piece was performed in 1652. Until 1687 he lived - apart from a short stay in Vienna in 1659 - mainly in Venice , where he was a member of the Accademia Delfica and the Accademia degli Imperfetti . 1688–94 he was in the service of the Duke of Parma ; During this time he wrote about a dozen works for the stage, all of which were set to music by the court composer Bernardo Sabadini . His later libretti were again mostly written for Venice or other cities of the Republic of Venice ; the last known piece dates from 1708.

Aureli's oeuvre comprises around 50 libretti, some of which are arrangements of older works. Aureli was closely geared to the tastes of the public and often combined historical and mythological subjects that were far apart.
