Aurus Senate as the Russian state car on May 7, 2018

Aurus Senat ( Russian Аурус Сенат ) is a luxury sedan that was developed by the Moscow Automobile Institute NAMI . The production model was presented at the Moscow International Motor Show at the end of August 2018.

The car became known to the public at the inauguration of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on May 7, 2018 and was first used as a state limousine.

history

Since the 1990s, the Kremlin has only used Mercedes luxury cars . In 2012, Vladimir Putin commissioned the Kortesch (Kortezh from French Cortège) project, which was subsidized by the state with 12.4 billion rubles (164 million euros).

In 2013, the Moscow Vehicle Institute NAMI was given sole development competence for the project. Up until then and during that time, various domestic and international manufacturers were being discussed in the Russian media for future series production of the vehicle and other models on the same platform . These included ZIL (insolvent since 2013), KAMAZ and GAZ . KAMAZ negotiated with Mercedes-Benz, and a collaboration with Magna International or Porsche was also considered. In 2014, the Russian government selected UAZ for the production of future series vehicles. Porsche and Bosch are said to have contributed to the development of the engine.

Technical specifications

The appearance of the sedan is very reminiscent of a Rolls-Royce Phantom . The car is powered by a 4.4 liter NAMI / Porsche V8, which is supported by an electric motor and is supposed to produce 440 kW (598 PS). The maximum torque should be 880 Newton meters. The interior is lined with leather and decorated with wood paneling and aluminum.

Under the project name Kortesch (Russian: Кортеж , German: "Ehrengeleit"), other models are planned as part of an automobile platform in addition to the state limousine already presented: a compact car , an SUV , a van and another limousine. The Kortesch vehicles are intended for the free market and will be available for sale from 2019. Russia wants to invest a total of around 250 million euros in the new vehicle family.

Trivia

The German automobile manufacturer Daimler inaugurated its first car factory in Russia on April 3, 2019. Russian President Vladimir Putin also traveled to the opening of the industrial park ( Jessipowo , Russian Есипово ), 40 km northwest of the Moscow ring road MKAD . Putin was driven directly into the factory hall in his Aurus luxury limousine, which had replaced the armored Mercedes S 600 Pullman limousines for him for a year.
