action

In front of the discotheque, 17-year-old Anne breaks up with her boyfriend Dennis and his clique in an argument. On Monday she reads in the newspaper that that Friday night near the disco a cyclist was murdered with 32 stab wounds and that, from the point of view of the police, two men and a woman are suspect.

Anne suspects that Dennis, the “arrogant” Raf, whose proximity Dennis is looking for, and the “funky” Nicole are the trio they are looking for. While her boyfriend explains that she is crazy and Raf plays with her, she only confides her thoughts in her diary. As the film progresses, Anne has a violent argument with her father because he has broken open her desk drawer and read the diary.

In the film, however, director Brühl is “less concerned with solving a criminal case than with authentic images from the dreary suburban neighborhood of Cologne”. Above all, he illuminates the social environment of the uprooted young people.

criticism

“A laconically staged youth portrait that creates a bleak and direct picture of the living conditions and the attitude towards life and the disorientation of the young protagonists. [...] Inaccuracies in the motivation of the secondary characters are made up for by the convincing play of the main actress. "

"Tough youth thriller, played grippingly well"

"Katharina Schüttler delivers a brilliant performance in the oppressive study."
