The Leipzig-Süd motorway junction (abbreviation: AS Leipzig-Süd ; short form: Leipzig-Süd junction ) is a motorway junction in Saxony near Markkleeberg that has been converted into a clover leaf . In future it will be called the Leipzig-Süd motorway junction as soon as the motorway-like federal highway 2 , which it connects to the federal motorway 38 , is expected to be upgraded to the federal motorway 72 in 2026 . At the same time, the third motorway junction in Saxony will have been created.

geography

The junction is in the urban areas of Böhlen and Markkleeberg , east of the Gaschwitz district in the Leipzig district . It is located about 10 km south of the eponymous city of Leipzig , about 40 km southeast of Halle (Saale) and about 60 km northwest of Chemnitz .

The Leipzig-Süd motorway junction has junction number 31 on the A 38 and number 30 on the A 72.

history

Originally the B 2 ran a little further west. This can still be seen on aerial photos and explains the unusual dangling of the B 2. The motorway junction was opened on May 29, 2006 as part of the Central German Loop , but the direction of the A 38 triangle Parthenaue was missing. These were opened on August 13, 2006 released and the junction thus completed.

planning

The start of construction for section 5.2 of the A72 is scheduled for autumn 2018. The remaining 7.2 kilometers of motorway between Rötha and the future motorway junction should be completed by 2026. With the completion of section 5.2 in 2026, Bundesstraße 2 between the Leipzig-Süd junction and the Böhlen junction will be upgraded to a motorway. In the course of the construction work, the Böhlen junction will also be rebuilt by 2026.

Design and state of development

An adapted clover leaf was chosen as the design . Until August 13, 2006, however, it was only half a clover because the A 38 to the east was missing.

The B 2 has four lanes in both directions. The A 38 also has four lanes in each direction. The four indirect ramps ("ears") are single-lane, the direct ramps have two lanes, except for the Leipzig → Halle relation, which was also only built with one lane.
