The Rippachtal motorway junction (abbreviation: AK Rippachtal ; short form: Rippachtal cross ) is a motorway junction in Saxony-Anhalt near Merseburg . It connects the federal highway 9 ( Berlin - Leipzig - Munich ; European roads 49 and 51 ) with the federal highway 38 ( Südharzautobahn ).

The motorway junction is located in the urban areas of Lützen and Weißenfels , north-west of the Rippach district in the Burgenland district . Other surrounding districts are Röcken in the northeast, Pörsten in the southeast, Dehlitz and Lösau in the southwest and Oeglitzsch in the northwest. It is located about 25 km southwest of Leipzig , about 20 km northeast of Naumburg and about 25 km south of Halle (Saale) .

It is named after the Rippach River , which flows into the Saale a few kilometers southwest .

The Rippachtal motorway junction has junction number 19 on the A 9 and number 27 on the A 38.

Design and state of development

The motorway junction was opened in October 1997 as part of the Central German Loop . A modified clover leaf was chosen as the design. Instead of an indirect ramp coming from the A 9 from Munich onto the A 38 to Göttingen , a tangent carriageway with two bridges was built.

The A 38 has four lanes in both directions. The A 9 has six lanes. The three indirect ramps are single-lane, the direct ramps - apart from the Leipzig-Berlin route, which is single-lane - have two lanes. The tangent is also designed with two stripes.

Traffic volume

The cross is used by around 90,000 vehicles every day.
