Avonmouth is a port city and suburb of Bristol in Great Britain .
geography
Avonmouth is located on the north bank of the estuary of the Avon in the estuary of the Severn . The Welsh towns of Cardiff and Newport are within sight of the Avonmouth riverside.
Avonmouth Sewage Works Nature Reserve
A ten hectare part of the “ Wessex Water ” wastewater treatment plant is managed as a bio-reserve . The lagoons and a pond there are artificially created. They serve as feeding and resting areas for various species of birds, including pochard , tufted duck , teal and shoveler . The grasslands offer shelter for smaller mammals such as voles , which in turn serve as food for kestrels and barn owls.
History and administration
Originally Avonmouth was part of the county of Gloucestershire , with the dissolution of the traditional counties of England , the place was assigned to the ceremonial county of Bristol in 1888 .
Avonmouth is part of the Bristol North West general electoral district. The local electoral district of Avonmouth also includes the place Shirehampton and the western part of Lawrence Weston . Two members of Bristol City Council are elected in local elections.
Shirehampton itself is a district that was originally a separate village. This fact can still be seen today in the structure of the district, for example in the former main street of the village. Shirehampton has its own train station. Many of the 6,867 residents are said to have felt like residents of their own village long after the merger.

With the Avonmouth Docks , the place has a seaport . Like the Royal Portbury Dock on the opposite bank of the Avon, this is operated by the “Bristol Port Company”. Avonmouth is home to major chemical plants as well as a gas-fired power plant .

Avonmouth is connected to Bristol Central Station by an hourly Severn Beach Line train. The M5 runs through Avonmouth and passes the Avon over the Avonmouth Bridge. The M49 connects the M5 with the M4 at the Second Severn Bridge . The old Severn Bridge and the M4 are linked to Avonmouth by the A403. The so-called "Portway", part of the A4, connects Avonmouth directly with the center of Bristol.
