Axel Holst (born June 2, 1967 in Neustrelitz ) is a German actor and director .

Life

After an apprenticeship in printing and graphics, Holst completed his acting studies at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rostock under Professor Thomas Vallentin. Since 1997 he has appeared in several films, including German Angst , and television series. From 2017 to 2020 he played the role of Roland Landmann in the television series Lindenstrasse . In addition, Holst took part in numerous plays as an actor and director. Among other things, he played Woyzeck in the production of the same name by Kay Voges, George in Who Is Afraid of Virginia Woolf , Oedipus in the play of the same name, Odysseus inThe Odyssey , Macky Messer in Threepenny Opera and Galileo Galilei in Brecht's play of the same name. In 2012, Holst was honoredas “Best Actor”at the “NRW Theatertreffen” for the role of Thorvald Helmer in Nora von Ibsen (production by Kay Voges). Holst worked at numerous well-known German theaters, for example the State Theater Stuttgart, State Theater Kassel, Schauspiel Essen, Schauspiel Dortmund, State Theater Darmstadt, Schauspiel Frankfurt and State Theater Schwerin. He has worked with directors Frank Patrick Steckel, J. Bosse, Kay Voges, Jerome Savary, Michael Gruner, Johann Kresnick, Anna Bergmann, Volker Schmalöer and Volker Lösch, among others. As a director he staged the play Heimat, Mutter und Ich at the Staatstheater Kassel , the play Metalloid at the Schauspiel Dortmund and the studio production Abu Dhabi or The First Apocalyptic Day at the HMT Rostock. Since 1998 Holst has been a guest lecturer at the Rostock University of Music and Theater . He also works as an illustrator and cartoonist.
