Axel Kühner (born November 12, 1941 in Ahlden ) is a German pastor , evangelist and non-fiction author .

Life

Kühner grew up with his two years older brother in Ahlden (Aller) , Lower Saxony, where his mother's ancestors had been arable farmers for centuries and his father's were humanities scholars, philologists and theologians. In 1942 his family moved to Oldenburg for professional reasons . After the death of his father in Soviet captivity in 1945, he returned to Ahlden in 1948 on the grandparents' farm. From 1848 to 1952 he attended elementary school there and was at the Domgymnasium Verden until 1961 . Between 1954 and 1959 he was a member of the football club TSV Ahlden and with the beginning of the confirmation lessons from 1955 with Pastor Heinrich Kemner he was also a member of the local church youth group. After his confirmation in 1957, after an Easter holiday in the youth group, he found faith in God . He was initially a visitor and later also an employee of the annual “Ahlden Youth Days” and was intensively involved in youth work. The desire to become a pastor grew in him and in May 1961 he began studying the ancient languages ​​of Greek and Hebrew at the Bethel Church University in Bielefeld and then studied Protestant theology in Tübingen from 1963 : with Ernst Käsemann and Otto Michel New Testament , with Adolf Köberle and Jürgen Moltmann Systematic Theology . Here he got to know the work of the Student Mission in Germany (SMD). From 1964 he studied the Old Testament in Heidelberg with Gerhard von Rad and Claus Westermann . In 1965 he became engaged to the nurse Gertrud Gebhardt, whom he had met in Krelingen in 1962. They studied together in Göttingen . After his first exam in Hanover , their wedding took place in 1966 in Steinen (Baden) , his wife's home. Afterwards he was in the vicariate in Hanover-Linden and from 1967 in the seminary in Rotenburg (Wümme) , passed his second exam in 1968 after his ordination and from 1969 pastor of the parish Sulingen . As early as 1976 he received an inquiry from Kassel, which he followed in October 1977 and worked as an evangelist for the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen and Waldeck until his retirement in 2006. For this he moved with his family to Dörnberg (Habichtswald) near Kassel and in 1982 on to Altenritte . He is a member of the board of trustees of the Miriam Foundation Dortmund.

In the early 1990s, Kühner began to write books from his collection of stories and incidents from life, which he used to illustrate biblical truths in his sermons. As the author of many non-fiction books and a number of devotional books, he mainly publishes in the Aussaat-Verlag of the Neukirchener Verlagsgesellschaft . Even in retirement, he is a popular speaker at ERF South Tyrol , at women's breakfast meetings, wedding evenings and readings.

Private

Kühner married Gertrud Gebhardt in 1966. After the death of his wife, who had suffered from MS 15 years earlier , he moved to Kassel- Helleböhn in 1998 . The couple has three children.
