Axel Rot

Alexander "Axel" Rot (born January 20, 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musician , composer and conductor .

Life

From 1962 to 1966, Rot attended primary school in Vienna and began taking piano lessons at the same time. In 1966 he moved to the secondary school in Vienna and took jazz drums lessons. Two years later, in 1968, his musical training was so advanced that Axel Rot made his first public appearance in his father's big band at a ball.

After graduating from secondary school, the intensive musical training and musical activity began in 1970. Rot attended the University of Music and Performing Arts , where he was taught by Richard Hochrainer , Hans Swarovsky and Friedrich Cerha . At the age of 15 he appeared in 1971 in the guest performance of the Bolshoi Theater of the USSR in the production of " War and Peace " under Mstislaw Leopoldowitsch Rostropowitsch in the Vienna State Opera . Further appearances followed at the Salzburg Festival , the Bregenz Festival and the Seefestspiele Mörbisch and Rot was as a substitute in the orchestras of the Vienna State Opera, the Volksoper Vienna , the Theater an der Wien , the Vienna Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony , the Lower Austrian Tonkünstlerorchester and active in the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra .

In 1972 Rot was engaged in the stage orchestra of the Austrian federal theaters and a year later in the orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper, before touring all over the world from 1975 on, among others with Willi Boskovsky .

He created his own compositions and arrangements for ballet, big band and folk music and made appearances and recordings with numerous celebrities in musical life, such as Peter Alexander , Leonard Bernstein , Karl Böhm , Jose Carreras , Richard Clayderman , Placido Domingo , Martha Eggerth and Johannes Heesters , Michael Heltau , Curd Jürgens , Herbert von Karajan , Robert Stolz , Wolfgang Sawallisch and many others.

For several years, Rot held guest seminars at the Stockerau Music School, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts , the Academy for Performing Arts Palm Beach and the Academy for Performing Arts Sultanate of Oman.

In 1990 he founded the " Orchester Axel Rot ", in 1998 the "Tonstudio Axel Rot" and in 2001 the "Musikverlag Axel Rot".

Axel Rot is a founding member of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, the Johann Strauss Capelle, the Wolfgang Lindner Band and a founding member and partner of the Schlossfestspiele Langenlois Betriebs-GmbH, of which he was technical director from 1996 to 2012.
