Azángaro is the capital of the Azángaro Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . Azángaro is located in the district of the same name . The city had 20,696 inhabitants at the 2017 census. 10 years earlier the population was 16,035.

Geographical location

The city of Azángaro is located in the Altiplano of Peru, northwest of Lake Titicaca . It is located on the right bank of the Río Ramis (also Río Azángaro) at an altitude of 3850  m . Lake Titicaca is about 55 km away. The city of Juliaca is 65 km south of Azángaro.
