The Río Ramis is a tributary of Lake Titicaca in the South American Andean highlands (northern Altiplano ) of the Peruvian region of Puno .
River course
The Río Ramis has a total length of about 350 km. It forms the outflow of the lake Laguna Rinconada , which is 4631 m high . Initially, the river flows as Río Crucero 120 kilometers in a predominantly east-northeast direction along the southern flank of the Cordillera Carabaya , a mountain range of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . He passes the places Ananea and Crucero . Then the river turns south. At river kilometer 195 the small town of San Antón is on the right bank of the river. At river kilometer 160 the Río Quenamari (also Río Grande or Río Nuñoa ), which drains the southeast of the Cordillera Vilcanota , meets the Río Ramis coming from the northwest. Below their union, the river is also called Río Azángaro . The provincial capital Azángaro lies on the western bank of the river at river kilometer 135 . There the Río Quilcamayo flows from the east into the Río Ramis. This maintains its course in a southerly direction, but now forms numerous river loops . The river reaches the flat arid plain northwest of Lake Titicaca. About 66 km above the mouth, the Río Pucará meets the river from the right. This then turns to the east as Río Ramis , passes the town of Taraco , takes the Río Huancané from the left at kilometer 8 , before it finally reaches the north-west bank of Lake Titicaca.
Hydrology
The Río Ramis drains an area of around 18,230 km² in the north of the Puno region. A large part of the annual runoff occurs in the first quarter with an average runoff of around 250 m³ / s (total runoff from Río Ramis including Río Huancané). During floods , the runoff can be over 600 m³ / s. In the summer months in particular, the river carries very little water, around 10 m³ / s on average. The catchment area borders in the east on that of the Río Suches , in the north on that of the Río Inambari , in the west on the catchment areas of Río Urubamba and Río Apurímac and in the south on that of the Río Coata .
