The province of Azángaro belongs to the administrative region of Puno in the south of Peru . The province was founded on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​4970 km². The 2017 census counted 115,672 inhabitants in the province. In 1993 the population was 138,998, in 2007 136,829. The administrative seat is the city of Azángaro .

Geographical location

The province of Azángaro is centrally located in the Puno region. The province is located northwest of Lake Titicaca . In the north it borders on the province of Carabaya , in the east on the provinces of San Antonio de Putina and Huancané , in the south on the provinces of San Román and Lampa and in the west on the province of Melgar .
