The province of San Antonio de Putina belongs to the administrative region of Puno and is located in the south of Peru . It has an area of 3207 km². The 2017 census counted 36,113 inhabitants in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 50,490. The administrative seat is Putina . Another larger town in the province is La Rinconada in the Ananea district .
Geographical location
The province of San Antonio de Putina is located in the east of the Puno region, about 40 km north of Lake Titicaca . The longitudinal extent in the WSW-ONE direction is about 109 km. The province is mostly located in the Andean highlands . Only in the northeast of the province does a narrow corridor extend across the Cordillera Carabaya , a mountain range of the Peruvian Eastern Cordillera . This corridor is flanked by the mountain peaks Chapi in the west and Chaupi Orco in the east. The lake is located on the southern flank of the mountain Suches Lake , the river source lake Suches River . The border with Bolivia runs through the lake and the mountainous region further north. In the south, the province of San Antonio de Putina borders on the province of Huancané , in the west on the province of Azángaro and in the north on the provinces of Carabaya and Sandia .
