The Putina district is located in the San Antonio de Putina Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district has an area of 1036 km². The 2017 census counted 14,753 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 12,913, in 2007 it was 20,792. The administrative seat of the district is the provincial capital Putina at an altitude of 3878 m with 10,746 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Putina district is located in the Altiplano south of the Cordillera Carabaya in the central west of the San Antonio de Putina province. The upper reaches of the Río Ramis (also Río Crucero or Río Grande) flows along the northern district boundary to the west. The southern part of the district is drained to the south via the Río Huancané .
The district of Putina borders in the south with the district Pedro Vilca Apaza , in the west with the districts Azángaro , Muñani and Potoni (all three in the province Azángaro ), in the north with the district Crucero ( province Carabaya ), in the east with the districts Ananea and Quilcapuncu and in the southeast to the Huatasani District ( Huancané Province ).
