The district of Sina is located in the province of San Antonio de Putina in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was founded on May 2, 1854. It has an area of ​​467 km². The 2017 census counted 1649 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1161, in 2007 it was 1472. The administrative seat of the district is the 3229  m high village of Sina with 527 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sina is located 80 km northeast of the provincial capital Putina .

Geographical location

The district of Sina is located in the northeast of the province of San Antonio de Putina in the Cordillera Carabaya . The mountains reach a height of 6044  m on the Bolivian border in the east of the district in Nevado Chaupi Orco . The district extends over two valleys north of the main ridge of the Cordillera Carabaya. The western valley is traversed by the Río Sina, a source river of the Río Inambari , in a northerly direction. In this valley is the main town Sina. A 4700  m high pass road connects the high valley with the south side of the mountains. To the north, the road continues to Yanahuaya . A cul-de-sac leads east from Sina to the villages of Girigachi and Saqui. The eastern part of the district forms the headwaters of the Río Tambopata , which flows north.

The district of Sina borders in the south on the district Ananea , in the west on the district Quiaca ( province Sandia ), in the north on the district Yanahuaya (also in the province Sandia) and in the east on the Bolivian province Franz Tamayo .
