The Quilcapuncu district is located in the San Antonio de Putina Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was established on November 26, 1986. It has an area of 524 km². The 2017 census counted 5187 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4065, in 2007 it was 5131. The administrative seat of the district is the 3910 m high town of Quilcapuncu with 2280 inhabitants (as of 2017). Quilcapuncu is located 15 km east of the provincial capital Putina .
Geographical location
The district of Quilcapuncu is located in the central south of the province of San Antonio de Putina in the Altiplano south of the Cordillera Carabaya . Most of the area is drained via the Río Pongongoni west to the Río Huancané .
The Quilcapuncu district is bordered to the west by the District Putina , on the north by the district Ananea , on the east by the district Cojata , the south by the district Ichupalla and on the southwest by the district Huatasani (the latter three districts lie within the province of Huancané ).
