Bärbel Sothmann (born August 20, 1939 in Neuruppin / Brandenburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

education and profession

After attending primary and secondary schools in Schwerin and Rostock , he fled from Rostock to Frankfurt am Main in 1957 . After training as a wholesale clerk in 1961 and graduating in business administration in 1970, she worked from 1972 to 1993 at the Battelle Institute in Frankfurt / Main as a director's assistant, data protection officer, department head, most recently as head of procurement.

Political party

Bärbel Sothmann has been a member of the CDU since 1972. From 1980 to 1998 she was a member of the CDU district committee in Hochtaunus, and from 1996 to 1999 a member of the presidium of the CDU Hessen.

Bärbel Sothmann worked in the women's union from 1979–1980 as district chairwoman of Hochtaunus, since 1980 also as a member of the state executive committee of the women's union Hessen (1996–2000 as chairwoman of the CDU women's union Hessen) and since 1990 also as a board member of the CDU Women's Union Germany.

Bärbel Sothmann was in three electoral terms (1990-1994, 1994-1998 and 1998-2002) directly elected member of the constituency 133 Hochtaunus to the German Bundestag . From 1994 to 2000 she chaired the women’s group in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and was a member of the committee for education , research and technology assessment .
