Bălan [ bəˈlan ] ( Hungarian. Balánbánya [ ˈbɒlaːnbaːɲɒ ], German (old) copper mine ) is a small town in Romania ( Harghita district , Transylvania ) and has a population of 7902 inhabitants, including 5121 (64.8%) Romanians and 2703 (34 , 5%) Szekler .

There are large copper deposits and copper mines in the vicinity of the city .
