The BBÖ 1170.1 was an electrically powered locomotive series of the BBÖ .
history
As the 1170 series proved its worth, the BBÖ ordered other similar machines, but they took account of experiences with the 1170 and changed superstructure conditions . The machines were to be used on the Westbahn west of Salzburg for light passenger train traffic. Since the superstructure now allowed an axle pressure of 17 t, a less compact structure could be carried out. Although the engine equipment was the same as in the 1170 series, the performance could be increased due to the remaining reserves. In contrast to the 1170s, the tractive effort was transmitted directly between the bogies. The box support has also been changed compared to the previous series.
The mechanical part of the 15 machines supplied by ELIN in Vienna (electrical part) was manufactured partly by Krauss in Linz (1170.101-106) and partly by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory (1170.106-115), as Krauss / Linz was delivering this series has been closed.
The locomotives were almost always stationed in Innsbruck , from where they mainly ran passenger trains. But they were also used in light freight train service and as a leader on the north ramp of the Brenner . The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the vehicles as E 45.1. The 45,101, 103 and 112 were destroyed during the Second World War. At the ÖBB, the remaining machines formed the 1145 series from 1953 . In 1966, the 1145.16 was built from the spare parts that were still available and the 1045 .11 that had been involved in the accident .
After the 1145 series was ousted from passenger train traffic in the early 1980s , its main area of application changed to serving subordinate traffic. For example, almost all shunting trains in the Innsbruck area were taken over by the 1145ers, but other shunting services and sporadic operations in front of freight trains were also part of their new area of responsibility. Some machines were also used in the Wörgl and Landeck area. At the same time the specimens from Attnang-Puchheim were relocated to Innsbruck. 1145.02 initially remained in Attnang-Puchheim, before it was also relocated on February 1, 1986.
The last machine in this series, the 1145.002, was taken out of service on November 1, 1990. The 1145.02 was preserved as a museum locomotive.
