The steam locomotive series kkStB 306 was an express train - Tender Locomotive series of Imperial Austrian State Railways (kkStB) and the Southern Railway .

history

Since the superheated steam locomotives were now ready for series production, the kkStB wanted to make use of the economic advantages of this system. Karl Gölsdorf therefore designed a superheated steam variant based on the 206 series  . In contrast to the Prussian models, he was not satisfied with a twin machine , but chose a superheated steam composite variant . The superheater area was comparatively small, but this was not due to the fact that Gölsdorf had little confidence in the new technology, but to the fact that higher temperatures would have required lubricating oils, which would then have had to be imported from abroad at a high price. However, he increased the boiler pressure to 15 kp / cm², which not only exceeded the number 206 with 13, but also the Prussian superheated steam locomotives with twelve kp / cm². The performance and the coal savings of 18% were quite gratifying, but the era of the double-coupled express train locomotives was already over. In order to set the heavy express trains of that time in motion, three-coupled machines were required.

A total of only three pieces were delivered by the StEG locomotive factory . One was stationed in Linz , the other two in northwestern Vienna . One of her outstanding achievements was the transport of the train of the Austrian imperial family, for which she was of course strong enough.

All three machines were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1938 and designated as 13.201–203 , but were soon converted into heating and washing systems. As such, another machine came to the ÖBB after the end of the war , which was only eliminated in 1959.

In 1910 the Südbahn purchased two of the 306 series, which were supplied by the Budapest State Machine Works . After the takeover of the southern runway by the Hungarian state, they became the MÁV 225.901-02 . They were stationed in Nagykanizsa until the late 1940s . The former came to the JDŽ as 103.002 after the Second World War .
