BBC Radio 4 Extra (formerly BBC Radio 7 ) is a digital radio broadcaster of the BBC . It has been on the air since December 15, 2002 and is the main channel for the BBC's vast language archive. Until October 4, 2008, the station was called BBC 7.

Programs from other BBC stations that are at least three years old or have already been broadcast twice on their original station are repeated, including many programs from BBC Radio 4 , classics such as the Paul Temple series (1938–1968) with Peter Coke and others Marjorie Westbury , Goon Show from the 1950s, current shows like Little Britain , but also specially produced for BBC Radio 7 like Old Harry's Game .

The 6th and midnight, called The 7th Dimension , broadcasts fantastic literature of various kinds, such as science fiction and horror . A new Doctor Who series has been running there since 2007 with Paul McGann as "Eighth Doctor".

BBC Radio 7 broadcast two children's programs every day: The Little Toe Show , which is aimed at younger listeners, and The Big Toe Show , which is aimed at children over the age of eight. In February 2007, Big Toe Books took over the second slot and Cbeebies Radio replaced Little Toe Show . These programs contain almost exclusively new material.

The station is characterized by a less formal claim than the others. The announcers who connect the programs are presented as personalities associated with their own thematic block.

The station can be received worldwide on the Internet , in the British Isles, northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and western Germany via the Astra 2D satellite, in the UK on DAB digital radio and via cable television .
