The Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium Lienz (BG / BRG Lienz) is a Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium in the city of Lienz in East Tyrol .

It is the only school in East Tyrol, where Latin is taught as Matura specialist so, so that the university for studies in medicine, history, Jus and many other subjects is achieved, and also the only institution that offers a scientific focus in high school.

The BG / BRG Lienz is the largest school in East Tyrol with 33 classes and 731 students (as of autumn 2013). On November 4, 2013, it became a partner school of the Hohe Tauern National Park . The teaching of natural knowledge about the Hohe Tauern National Park was integrated into the curriculum.

history

In the course of the annexation of Austria to Hitler's Germany, a high school for boys was set up in October 1938 in the premises of the former citizens ' hospital , today BORG Lienz . From 1950 to 1960 the school was housed in the Franz-Joseph-Kaserne . In 1960 the school building, built according to the plans of the architect Hans Buchrainer, was opened in the presence of Minister of Education Heinrich Drimmel . The extension opened in 2000 with a gym and further classrooms as well as a multi-purpose hall was planned by the architect Georg Steinklammer.
