Bačko Novo Selo ( Serbian Cyrillic. Бачко Ново Село, German Neudorf ad Donau , Hungarian Bácsújlak ) is a village of the municipality Bač with about 1200 inhabitants (2002) in the Serbian southern Backa ( Vojvodina ). The place is located on the Danube , which forms the border with Croatia and is halfway between Novi Sad and Osijek . Neighboring towns are Bukin and Plavna , as well as Sotin and Opatovac .
history
founding
Bačko Novo Selo is first mentioned in 1554 with three tax-paying households. At that time Neudorf was still under Turkish rule. After the Turkish wars , Neudorf was only called Puszta in 1699 under Habsburg rule. In 1715 there were already seven tax-paying households.
colonization
In 1731 Neudorf was given to the court chamberlain, Baron Johann Markus von Zuana. He was also the chief commissioner of Upper Hungary and had the task of settling the uninhabited areas of Hungary. The baron recruited Swabian farmers and from 1733 settled them on his private property. He was the landlord until 1746. Other landlords were Johann Adamovics and the Cseh family. Neudorf belonged to this family until the 19th century.
Disasters
In 1738 a large part of the population was killed by the plague. Constant flooding by the Danube ensured on the one hand fertile soil, but on the other hand also destroyed great values and often human lives. A particularly severe flood occurred in 1751.
