Bad Day LA (Original title: American McGee presents: Bad Day LA ) is a 2006 released computer game from the action adventure genre, developed by Enlight Software under the direction of American McGee . The player slips into the role of the homeless Anthony, who has to fight his way through a series of catastrophes and terrorist attacks in Los Angeles and involuntarily becomes a hero.

The player goes through ten levels in which there is a permanent threat from zombies , looters , terrorists , criminals and overzealous airport officials. After a plane crash on the freeway, the player must reach an ambulance and with it a hospital. On the way he meets a sick boy and the Mexican Juan who accompany him from now on. Arriving at the hospital, the city is shaken by an earthquake. From the hospital, you have to reach the airport and get to safety with an airplane, which is shot down by gangsters after it takes off. Then you have to reach the harbor and escape with a yacht, which is thwarted by a tsunami . After catching bank robbers and putting down an invasion by the Mexican army , you reach a rescue helicopter of the US Army . The game ends with Anthony having to stay behind and enable a zombie bomb to be detonated while his companions escape by helicopter. After the bomb detonated, you can see Anthony's hand reaching out of the bomb crater. Whether he survived or rose as a zombie remains to be seen.

Characters

  • Anthony Williams: Homeless, dark-skinned and prejudiced main character against women, whites and Mexicans, who is repeatedly forced in the course of the game to help and save others, which makes him a hero for them.
  • The sick boy: Marked by the biological attack, the 9-year-old nameless boy has to vomit all the time. He becomes Anthony's constant companion.
  • Juan: Mexican gardener, armed with a chainsaw that he effectively uses against zombies and other attackers. Turns out to be the leader of the revolution in the invasion of the Mexican army.
  • Beverly: Pampered suburbanite worried only about her looks and her small dog. She recommends fleeing to the marina because "one of her lovers" has a boat there.
  • The Sergeant : A one-armed, highly decorated and patriotic US soldier who has an unlimited supply of hand grenades. Is saved by Anthony and sees in him a "good soldier".

The game received mostly negative reviews ( GameRankings : 33.15% / Metacritic : 28 out of 100). Although the political satire of the scenario is generally praised, the technical implementation and the sometimes too low playfulness were criticized.
