The four vehicles of the type II , from 1868 IIb old the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways were broad gauge - steam locomotives for 1600 mm gauge.
These were the first long- boiler locomotives in Baden . The vehicles had a square standing cup protruding beyond the rear axle and a wrought-iron inner frame. The Stephenson control used made it possible to change the cylinder charge. The feed pump located under the long boiler was driven by an eccentric shaft. The iron fork frame on the inside was originally designed for standard gauge. The wheels were therefore facing outwards on the sides.
The machines had a very poor load distribution (15% in the front, 60% in the middle, 25% in the rear), so that the locomotives tended to pitch.
When the gauge was changed to standard gauge in 1854, the machines were converted to the 2A axle sequence. It was driven by a jackshaft . A small weather protection was also installed for the boiler fittings.
The vehicles had a Tender of types 3 T 5.13 to 3 T 5.40.
