Baghdad is a ghost town in San Bernardino County in the US state of California . Baghdad is in the Mojave Desert on Route 66 near the city of Barstow .
The town was founded in 1883 on the Barstow to Needles railway line .
With the expansion of the motorway network, the neglect of the old Route 66 and the construction of the new Interstate 40 , the city lost its importance and with it its inhabitants.
With the novel and the film Out of Rosenheim , which in large measure in the Sidewinder Cafe , which later in Bagdad Café , was renamed in Newberry Springs west of Baghdad shot was, the city came to a new glory. The TV series Baghdad Café is based on the film.
