Bagnoles-de-l'Orne is a town and a former French commune with 2,368 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Orne in the region of Normandy . It belonged to the Arrondissement of Alençon and the Canton of Juvigny-sous-Andaine . The inhabitants are called Bagnolais .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the previous municipalities of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne and Saint-Michel-des-Andaines were merged into a nouvelle commune called Bagnoles de l'Orne Normandie and have the status of a commune in the new municipality déléguée . The administrative headquarters are in Bagnoles-de-l'Orne.
geography
Bagnoles-de-l'Orne is located on the Vée , a small tributary of the Mayenne river . The Andaines State Forest (French Forêt domaniale des Andaines ) extends to the northwest of the area, which is also part of the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park .
history
From the 19th century, a spa culture established itself in the village, which made it one of the historical bathing resorts in Europe. The baths are primarily intended to have therapeutic effects. In 2000, the municipalities of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne and Tessé-la-Madeleine merged . Today the town is particularly attractive for tourists thanks to the numerous buildings in the Art Deco style and the Belle Époque .
