Bagnou Beido (* 1939 in Dosso ; † 11. December 1994 in Niamey ; spellings also Bagnou and Beido , Beido , Beido ) was a Nigerien officers and politicians .

Life

Bagnou Beido volunteered in the French armed forces in 1957 . In 1959 he was deployed in Algeria and achieved the rank of sergent . After Niger gained independence, he became a member of the Nigerien Armed Forces in 1961 . He served in various units in Niamey , Zinder and Agadez and from 1973 had the rank of captain .

Bagnou Beido was one of the officers who deposed President Hamani Diori in the military coup on April 15, 1974 , and was a member of the Supreme Military Council , the Nigerian military junta that existed from 1974 to 1989 . Shortly after the coup, Beidou took command of the 2nd motorized Sahara company in Agadez and acted as representative of the Supreme Military Council in the Agadez department , which he headed as prefect from 1975. In 1979 he became Prefect of the Department of Zinder , in 1981 Prefect of the Department of Diffa and in 1983 again Prefect of the Department of Agadez. At that time he held the rank of battalion chief. Beidou became Deputy Minister of Defense on March 10, 1988, which he remained until May 19, 1989. He then took over the management of the Tahoua department as prefect until 1990 . Bagnou Beido, who last reached the rank of colonel , retired in 1991.

When the military in the summer of 1991 his political power gave to a civilian National Conference, Bagnou Beido was accused for the secret execution of Sani Souna Sido , the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Military Council, in 1977, as well as repression of the Tuareg -Zivilbevölkerung to tchintabaraden in 1989 to be responsible. A ruling by the Supreme Court led to his release in April 1992. Bagnou Beido died two years later as a result of a traffic accident. Bagnou Beido was married, his eldest son Garba Bagnou Beido lives in Germany.
