Vacha depot

The Vacha depot was a depot (Bw) in Vacha in Thuringia , which existed from the beginning of the 20th century until around 1974. Subsequently, the Vacha depot was converted into a deployment site for the Eisenach depot. When potash traffic to Unterbreizbach was abandoned at the end of the 1990s , no deployment site was necessary.

In the roundhouse since the 1970s had steel Vacha housed, which for a long time to train group belonged. After the insolvency of Stahl- und Anlagenbau Vacha , the Association for Transport History in the Middle Werratal e. V. 2009 the locomotive shed in order to be able to safely park the club's own vehicles and thus to secure the operation on the Bad Salzungen – Vacha railway line as a connecting railway .

Vehicle inventory

A wide variety of locomotives were used in the steam locomotive era: The Prussian P 8 , G 8 , G 8.2 , G 10 , G 12 , T 12 , T 14 , T 16 , T 18 , standard locomotives DR class 44 and many others

The series V 60 , V 100 , V 200 and V 300 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn were mainly used in diesel locomotive operations. The Blue Tiger was also tested on the routes around Vacha. With the discontinuation of freight traffic, the deployment site became superfluous, for a few years the LVT that operated here were shut down until local rail passenger traffic was completely discontinued.

Track tamping machines and ballast leveling machines from a friendly track construction company from Tann (Rhön) are often visited .

Job sites

Bad Salzungen was one of the deployment sites of the Vacha depot . Locomotive stations in Kaltennordheim and Bad Liebenstein (then still Bw Meiningen ) were given up early on.

Others

A railway forum known throughout Germany has given itself the name Bw Vacha - Kantine. There are no real relationships with the former canteen of the Vacha depot in the roundhouse.
