The Arfurt (Lahn) train station is a stop in the Runkel district of Arfurt on the Lahntalbahn .

history

Originally, Arfurt did not have its own stop on the Lahn Valley Railway. In the years 1860 to 1862, however, a line keeper's house was built at the foot of the village, which was put into operation on October 14, 1862 when the section between the Limburg (Lahn) and Weilburg stations was opened.

The listed former route keeper's house

The two-and-a-half-story building with a flat gable roof consists of plastered clinker brickwork, which is partially slated. The windows are double-axed with sill cornices . The associated stable shed has a half-timbered knee stick . Both buildings, which are now privately owned, are listed , and the reason also includes the special location at the foot of the village.

The Arfurt (Lahn) train station is about a kilometer away, outside of Arfurt and also serves as access to rail transport for the Seelbach district , which belongs to Villmar . It can only be reached from both villages via paved roads. The stop was built in 1897 as a goods loading point for the Lahn lime works Auerberg , and passenger traffic was started a little later.

The station building is a unique combination of half-timbered and corrugated iron building for the Lahn Valley Railway. Like the entire railway line, this building is also a listed building. While the corrugated iron hut serves as a waiting room, a small signal box is housed in the half-timbered building, which is still in use today. Due to a lack of financial resources, this operation will remain in place until at least 2020 despite increasing structural defects. The stop has 400-meter-long platforms, which were brought up to a platform height of 38 cm and paved over a length of 140 meters each from October 2011 . A renewal of the platform lighting and the construction of a bus shelter are also planned.

In contrast to most of the stops along the Lahn Valley Railway, Arfurt train station is rarely used by bicycle tourists, as the Lahn Valley Cycle Path runs on the other side of the river. In 2012, around 80 passengers were counted on working days.

traffic

Until December 2011, regional trains operated by Deutsche Bahn AG ran every hour on the Lahntalbahn between Limburg and Gießen , and sometimes on to Alsfeld / Fulda. Since the 2011/2012 timetable change on December 11, 2011, the RB services on this section of the Lahntalbahn have been carried out by Hessische Landesbahn GmbH . Alstom Coradia Lint 41 (DB class 648) railcars are used for this . The DB Regional Express trains (RE 25) pass through the station without stopping. For the RE services, railcars of the type Alstom Coradia Lint 27 and Lint 41 (series 640 and 648) as well as Bombardier Talent (series 643) are used.
