The Bensheim-Auerbach railway station in 1850 for those from Frankfurt to Heidelberg leading Main-Neckar Railway built. The design for the station is said to come from Darmstadt's city architect Georg Moller .

Originally it was called Auerbach , later Auerbach (Hess) . On May 22, 1932 - at the beginning of the summer timetable - it was renamed Auerbach (Bergstrasse) .

present

Bensheim-Auerbach station is a category 5 stop. It has station number 489.

In December 2007, plans of the Deutsche Bahn AG were announced that they intended to sell the reception building. Shortly afterwards, the railway announced the sale to an investor.

As an increasingly important traffic junction in the region, the train station is part of the overall concept for Hessentag 2014 in Bensheim and of the S-Bahn concept in the Rhein-Neckar transport association . It has therefore been extensively renovated and rebuilt since April 2012.

In the early morning of October 27, 2014, a fire broke out in the vacant building on Otto-Beck-Strasse at the corner of Schillerstrasse. The resulting material damage was estimated at at least 50,000 euros. The police assume arson .

construction

The station is a two-story residential or administrative building. It is covered with a gable roof with a low pitch. There are small mezzanine windows below the eaves . The station is built on three axes with yellow sandstone . The southern gable is half-timbered. Towards the tracks, the roofing stands on cast-iron pillars, which presumably date from 1846. A small signal box was installed on the southwest side around 1920. There is architectural evidence that this extension was made by Heinrich Metzendorf .

Modernization of the train station

The modernization work at the Bensheim-Auerbach train station began at the beginning of 2016 with the renewal of tracks 1 and 2. These ended in mid-2016. The main platform on platform 1 and the central platform on platform 2 and 3 were renewed from the beginning of 2017 to the end of 2017. The platforms were raised from 35 to 76 centimeters (upper edge of the rails) and rebuilt over a length of 210 m. Both platforms received two elevators during the modernization.
