The station is located in the Berga municipality. It is on the Halle – Hann railway line. Münden , which was opened by the Magdeburg-Leipzig Railway Company in 1866. However, the station was not established until 1877.

Since 1890 it has been the starting point for the branch line to Rottleberode , extended in 1923 to Stolberg , since 2011 without passenger traffic, and from 1916 to 1966 also for the Kyffhäuser Kleinbahn via Kelbra, Sittendorf , Tilleda and Hackpfüffel to Artern .

On February 21, 1945 a fully occupied express train was attacked by American fighter bombers on the route between Berga-Kelbra and Aumühle . After detonating the locomotive's steam boiler, they directed their sheaves of bullets into the cars. 40 people died instantly.
